Completing this program enhances your capabilities to demonstrate a level of knowledge, significant expertise and the skills required to provide the most considered, technically expert and effectively communicated tax advice a client can receive. Program materials are written, presented and assessed by practising tax experts. The topics you will work on are relevant and immediately applicable as you develop, consolidate and enhance your expertise, to launch or progress your career.
On successful completion of the program, and by satisfying Tax Institute membership requirements, you can use the prestigious CTA post-nominals, representing the highest standards for Tax Advisers. Additionally, completing the CTA Program means you are eligible for 6 units of credit, of recognition of prior learning, towards a Master of Tax from the University of New South Wales.University of New South Wales Master of Tax graduates are exempted from CTA1, CTA2A and CTA2B and can therefore proceed directly to CTA3 Advisory to complete the CTA program.

Admission Requirements
A Chartered Tax Adviser Program candidate should:
1. Hold current membership of The Tax Institute. Fellow membership is required to complete the final subject in the program, CTA3 Advisory. A discounted membership is available at the time of enrolment for all new members which expires on 30 June following the enrolment. Find out more about membership benefits and resources
2. Meet minimum English language requirements if the language of instruction for your 6 years of secondary education was not English.

*Certain combinations of subjects, up to two subjects per study period, are possible. Recognition for prior learning and Advanced Standing may be available (excluding CTA3 Advisory). *Note that to enrol in the CTA3 Advisory subject, 36 months of relevant Australian tax experience is required.
Delivery modes
All programs provide candidates with flexibility in the way they select and experience their learning. Different delivery modes (at the subject level) are available. Digital learning assets (micro-learning) covering key areas of the syllabus for each subject are provided to all candidates (other than Assessment-only).
- Distance learning delivery. Distance learning delivery involves self-directed learning utilising online learning assets and interactive sessions.
- Intensive delivery. The intensive delivery mode is typically a reduced period of candidate learning using either distance learning or intensive delivery modes (subject dependent). Candidates receive all the regular resources and access to online learning assets.
- Assessment-only delivery Assessment-only delivery allows candidates to accelerate their studies by progressing directly to the online assessments for the subject based on prior study, qualifications and experience.
Candidate subject resources
Resources made available to a candidate (other than assessment-only delivery) vary by subject but generally include:
- Access to an online learning portal with learning materials, digital learning assets (micro-learning), online checkpoint tests, assessment preparation resources and practice assessments.
- Additional resources from the subject sponsors, such as Wolters Kluwer CCH and Thomson Reuters.
- Email access to a subject convenor for technical questions.
- Support from our dedicated subject coordinators.
Recognition of prior learning and advanced standing
Recognition of prior learning (RPL)
RPL is a process for providing candidates credit for learning or qualifications completed before your enrolment with The Tax Institute.
To apply for RPL (fee $165), please complete the RPL form. Evidence of your qualifications will need to be provided with this application.
Advanced standing
Advanced standing is a process of transferring credits from subjects you have previously completed with The Tax Institute. To apply for advanced standing (no fee applies), please complete the advanced standing form.
