MEDIA RELEASE – EVENT

Federal Treasurer and Tax commissioner to headline The Tax Institute’s 30th National Convention

Tax Adviser of the Year Awards to be presented

17 March, 2015: The Federal Treasurer, Joe Hockey, and the Commissioner of Taxation, Chris Jordan, headline an impressive speaker line-up for The Tax Institute’s 30th annual National Convention to be held on the Gold Coast this week from Wednesday 18 to Friday 20 March.

This year’s convention takes place at a key turning point for the Australian tax system.  The Federal Government is nearing the halfway point of its first term and is close to releasing its highly-anticipated tax white paper; a key item of the Government’s legislative agenda.

According to Stephen Healey, President of The Tax Institute, the tax issues facing Australia now and into the future need to be debated and discussed, and this year’s convention provides the ideal forum for such issues.

“This year’s National Convention program has been designed to educate and inform delegates on the key issues facing tax professionals in Australia.

“Recognised as Australia’s premier taxation conference, the National Convention delivers unrivalled technical excellence, expertise and quality,” said Mr Healey.

Among the topics discussed will be the implications for business and tax professionals in areas such as international tax rules and tax havens; superannuation; payroll tax; M&As and general tax advice for business.

Also, following the successful introduction at last year’s event, the convention will see the annual Tax Adviser of the Year Awards presented to recognise the profession’s highest achievers.

“Representing the pinnacle achievement for the best tax practitioners, from rising stars to industry leaders, the awards recognise those individuals who are making their mark in the industry and reward them with a valuable opportunity to highlight their excellence in tax,” said Mr Healey.

The awards will be presented at the convention dinner on Thursday 19 March.
