Gillian Triggs to lead program at inaugural Women in Tax National Congress

Publication date: 21 Nov 17 | Source: THE TAX INSTITUTE

SYDNEY, 21 November 2017: Emeritus Professor Gillian Triggs, former President of the Australian Human Rights Commission will deliver her keynote address ‘Challenges for women leaders in a post-truth environment’ from 8.30am on Wednesday.

The internet and social media provide unprecedented access to information and commentary. An unforeseen consequence is that responses to contemporary problems are becoming increasingly emotional, personal or ideological.

Research, evidence and balanced reports are often ignored in favour of subjective, entrenched views. If facts don’t matter, how can public policy and laws be developed to address today's challenges? Professor Triggs will consider the implications for women leaders in this “post-truth” era.

The Women in Tax National Congress is a new event created by The Tax Institute, and designed from the ground up especially for women who work in the tax, accounting and legal professions.

Focused on the challenges women face in the tax profession, this event will deliver insights from both familiar high-profile presenters and exciting new faces.

Professor Robert Deutsch, Senior Tax Counsel at The Tax Institute says, “We have seen a steady increase in the number of women in the tax profession. 46% of young practitioners who join The Tax Institute are women. They represent our future leaders and we are committed to supporting them”.
