3 March 2016: Four leading tax professionals were announced as winners of the 2016 Tax Adviser of the Year Awards tonight at The Tax Institute’s 31st National Convention in Melbourne.

Mark Bradford, CTA, has taken out the pinnacle of the tax awards, the Chartered Tax Adviser of the Year. Starting his career over 25 years ago in the Private Business Division at KPMG, Mark is now head of the tax team at one of Australia’s most iconic and recognised brands, QANTAS. Demonstrating significant achievements throughout his career, above what would be expected, Mark also demonstrated a high degree of ingenuity over various matters.

“This year, not only did we have such a diverse range of finalists, we also had strong candidates throughout the application process” says Noel Rowland, CEO, The Tax Institute.

Tim Poli, ATI, a lawyer from WA was recognised as the Emerging Tax Star, a category which recognises those individuals with less than 5 years’ experience. It is judged on their achievements to date and the 2016 winner has shown an impressive career so far on various clients and cases for the SME sector.

Pete Sanders, Managing Director from Wolters Kluwer, proud sponsor of the 2016 Tax Adviser of the Year award says that “recognising tax practitioners and showcasing their excellent work is an important part of strengthening the industry and setting high standards for best practice. It’s a great opportunity for tax practitioners to network and learn from one another as we shine a light on rising stars across the industry.”

Paul Banister, CTA, from Grant Thornton’s Queensland office was recognised as the leading SME Tax Adviser. Paul leads the taxation and private advisory division. Holding almost 30 years’ experience, Paul has represented the pinnacle of both the profession and a long-standing relationship with The Tax Institute.

Peter Whittington from Perpetual, says “we are proud to support The Tax Institute’s SME Tax Adviser of the Year award. Tax Advisers, especially those who have achieved the honour of being nominated for Australia’s most prestigious tax awards, are the most trusted adviser.”

Specialising in international tax, Peter Collins, FTI, from PwC’s Victorian office was recognised as the leading Corporate Tax Adviser. Peter has over 25 years of experience as a specialist in international tax, working with some of the world’s largest and most iconic multinational clients to solve complex cross-border issues.
