Tax White Paper a Necessary Step in Reforming Australia's Tax System

Publication date: 20 Mar 15 | Source: THE TAX INSTITUTE

20 March 2015: The Tax Institute welcomed the announcement of 30 March as the release date for the Federal Government’s tax discussion paper.

The Federal Treasurer, Joe Hockey, announced the release date at The Tax Institute’s 30th National Convention on the Gold Coast.

President of The Tax Institute, Stephen Healey, said the release of the discussion paper is a pivotal moment for Australia’s tax system and we would hope that the discussion paper provides a basis for a holistic debate.

“The Tax Institute has long argued for a simpler, fairer tax system in Australia and the white paper process has significant potential to provide a foundation on how to achieve this.

“Tax reform in recent years has not been holistic but has only tinkered round the edges of the tax system.

“We welcome the announcement of the tax discussion paper's release date and look forward to working with the Government on reforming Australia’s tax system,”he said.

The Tax Institute’s National Convention is Australia’s premier tax conference and concludes today.
